3) NEW COMPUTER? WHERE'S YOUR DATA
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

0) WORST VIRUS SO FAR:
"Cyber Security". It installs on your computer and asks for money.
"You are infected with 50 viruses - buy our software now".
Of course, all they want is your credit card information.

DO NOT CLICK ON ANYTHING
Clicking on "no" means "yes". Instead, use control-alt-delete to stop
everything you think may be harmful that is running on your computer.
You can not hurt your computer - if you were able to stop something
important, your computer would freeze - not a problem!

Please note: NO ANTI VIRUS SOFTWARE will remove this virus !!!!
You are looking at a minimum of two to three hours to get me to
get rid of this virus. In some versions of this virus, a full
restore (save data, wipe the computer and reinstall the operating system)
is the only solution.

PLEASE BE CAREFUL - THE INTERNET CAN BE A VERY NASTY PLACE.

2) Information Online Security
DECIDE BEFORE HAND: DO YOU ANSWER EVERYTHING TRUTHFULLY, OR DO YOU
CREATE A PERSONA (A MASK) FOR CERTAIN QUESTIONS.

As hinted above - having two or more email accounts help you separate
incoming email - one for spam - one for safe email.

For each web site that asks you to sign up - how do you know what
information is safe to give out?

They all seem to ask for your name, age and phone number !!!

Be prepared - then decide WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO DIVULGE.

Name, email, phone number (home, cell), address (street, city, state),
age, birthdate (used to verify over 21), gender, social security,
credit card, bank account, drivers licence.

And when you post on the net (on sites like facebook):
pictures, videos, education, interests, work history,

Let's name a few web sites:
facebook, hotmail, yahoo, digg, google, twitter, youtube, squidoo,
meetup, LINKEDIN, classmates

3) NEW COMPUTER? WHERE'S YOUR DATA

BACKUP. That's the key word you need to know.

"Old computers" have all your personal data - pictures, emails,
spreadsheets, financials, cookies - you name it - the old computer
is loaded with sensitive data - just waiting to be used by criminals.

Hire me to:
a) transfer data from your old computer to your new computer
b) wipe the old computer absolutely clean of personal information
c) resell your old computer

ps:
Is your anti-virus software up to date? It is not enough to update
the virus definitions.
If your subscription has expired, you are NOT safe from attacks.

2) Netbooks - what are they?
3) Buy and Sell - old computers
4) Yearly maintenance plan

6) Dead hard drives

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Discount Web Sites
$160 for a web site and 1-4 web pages
$(ask) for existing web sites: for search engine optimization and marketing
Note: this gives you personalized email such as info@yourname.com

http://beautifulnailsandskin.com Nail Saloon
http://kellymccrackencounseling.com Family Care
http://maymeigarden.com Chinese Food
http://pjqinc.com Cement
http://vpsdrs.com Veterinary Pathology Services
(work in progress)
http://printingorlando.com (A & C printing -
hired for "Search Engine Marketing")

2) The latest computers are called Netbooks (as opposed to Notebooks or Laptops)

SERVICE: Save and transfer data from you old computer. Transfer to the new computer.
Assumes the old hard drive will spin up. Laptop or Desktop.
Price: $140 for the up to 20 gigabytes. $10 each additional gig.
(dvd's hold 4 gigs)
Please note: As a precaution, data will be scanned for viruses,
however, email will not be scanned (as this violates
confidentiality)

Netbooks (Definition: Laptops with small 10 inch screens
Usually "refurbished" (returned and fixed)
May only have 3 month warranties)

Why they are good:
Email and browsing the internet
Battery will last 1-2 hours
Fast enough for what they do
Small enough to take anywhere, less likely to be bounced around.
Cost: Around $300.00 - which makes tossing out your "old" computer
sound like a deal
Why they are bad:
10 inch screen - a "test" for older eyes
Hard Disk Drive, (solid state) while faster, is impossible to save
if it dies.
Some songs (like one by U2) will cause the hard drive to crash.
(neat)

3) Buy and Sell:
What should you do with your "old" computer?
Obviously, the first concern is the data !!!!
The data should be backed up and saved to dvd's or transferred
to another computer.
The computer needs to be cleaned of all data and readied for
resale. Let's use the word "refurbished".

Provided the computer meets a minimum criteria:
2.5 ghz processor, 160 gb hard drive, 512 mb ram
I'll buy your computer for $50.
If the computer has personal data, I'll back up the data to
return to you, for the cost of the computer.

If you are looking for a used computer, loaded with software and
tested to work: These computers will be available for resale
around $200 (depending on age, speed and memory). Please note I
cannot offer a warranty at this time.

4) The Great Depression (repeated offer from last year)

Based on this terrible economy - I'm about to offer 'a new deal'!

Most people call when their computer will no longer boot up, they've lost
all their data, or when they can't get on the internet.

A better approach would be to subscribe to a yearly maintenance plan.

At the recommendation of certain clients who have asked me to
draw up something similar to LAWN CARE, POOL MAINTENANCE and
DENTAL CLEANING - here are two suggestions:

Secondary Care: Twice a year (every six months) three hours per visit.
Program/windows updates. Virus scans. Defrag.
Unlimited email support. No phone support.
Takes up to 3 hours per visit, for one computer. Pre-set scheduled time.
Cost: Annual prepaid cost: $360 (Regular price: $210 per visit).
Major overhaul costs an additional $70 and counts as "1 visit".

5) Social Networking
Where you can find me:

Twitter - follow virusremoval
Facebook - follow Jerrold Schiff (cvr2009@live.com)
- groups: computer virus removal,
- french quarter exchange, may mei garden, printing orlando,
veterinary pathology services (vpsdrs.com),
griffin school of music, beautiful nails and skin
Highly recommend that you try FLOCK (www.flock.com) as a separate and safer browser.
I tried My Space on a disposable computer - and was attacked with viruses within 60 seconds.

6) 4% per year
Bad news is that HARD DRIVES continue to fail at an alarming rate.
The hard drive stores your operating system, pictures, emails and
documents. Hard drives are 'the only moving part' in a computer.
The longer you own a computer, the more likely a hard drive will die.
Choices: Back up data to dvd's. Back up data to internal or external
hard drives.
Please DO NOT WAIT ANY LONGER.
And remember when you are calling me
"My degree is in Computer Science, not Psychology.
If your hard drive no longer spins up, the best
I can do is say 'Ah, Ah, baby'.
If you are not able to back up your data, arrange an appointment as
soon as possible.

ps:
Is your anti-virus software up to date? It is not enough to update
the virus definitions. If your subscription has expired, you are NOT
safe from attacks.
