We all know that a business card is limited to personal contacts. But we can’t meet everyone!
That’s why there is advertising: The usual routes are yellow pages, newspapers and flyers.
Today, I will discuss: websites, email, classifieds, search engines and social networking
(1) Web Pages / Web Site:

You may think a web site isn’t necessary for your business. The common misconception is that a web site is seen all over the world, but is useless if your customers are local. Leave that choice to the people searching the web! The purpose of a web site is for your business to be found! At its most basic element, a web site is a business card; it is “who you are” and “what you do”. Think of it this way: Instead of handing out a business card per person you meet, a web site is a business card for anyone that finds you! Web sites are “hosted”. The pages reside on computers on the internet. I can create a template web site and host the site for $160.00. This is cheaper than most business cards, and lasts the entire year!
(2) Web Sites for franchisees, employees and individuals.
Want to get more business … as if you were handing out your business card to a lot of people? How about a generic web site – that tells people what you do, and gets them to contact you? Here is an example: You sell Life Insurance for a large known company. But you need more leads. You can’t list the company’s name. Well, just like when you hand out business cards, you usually don’t start with that company name anyway! So, a web site that tells people about you, your contact information, your services and knowledge level is perfect as an introduction. When they pick up the phone and call you, you follow through, just as you would when you hand out that business card. Web sites cost $160.00, and include about 4 web pages (home page, contact, about, services).
(3) Email – personalized without quotas!
Nothing looks as unprofessional as a hotmail, gmail or yahoo email account! On the other hand, an email like Jerrold@schiffkey.com says everything! It gives people your web site (in this case schiffkey.com). It tells people your name, your services or products. It looks really professional. And of course, it is accessible using programs such as Microsoft Outlook, or on the net using a browser (say Internet Explorer, then it is called ‘webmail’). Cost? Your unlimited emails are free with your web site hosting $160.00
(4) Search Engines.
If your web site is designed properly, it will have words that can be picked up by search engines, and your site will be found. Trouble is, this takes time to propagate your web site to be noticed. An active campaign is necessary to help speed things up! If you have a big budget, you can try pay per click. But, if you are like most of us, a slower and cheaper approach is necessary. I have developed an approach that will feed into the search engines, and no matter how they change their algorithms, keep you listed towards the top page for years to come. “Search Engine Optimization” and marketing: I charge $495.00 which is a flat fee. It takes about three months for the tougher web sites. May Mei Garden (google Apopka Chinese Food) took only a week to get to page one. Each business is different, and so are the results!
(5) Social Networking
Now, this is something I bet you think you can do on your own. And be and large, you are correct. But you still need steering in the right direction. What to post. What NOT to post. How to stay out of trouble. The Spin Doctor approach. Advertising do’s and don’ts. While some companies will sell only Social Networking as a standalone package, I’ve included it in (4) Search Engines, above. You’ll see that this is labor intensive, and takes more than one person, per day, to tackle this beast!

Virus Stats: The average person takes 2-3 days in attempting to get rid of a virus.
Virus Stats: Programs like Norton, Mcafee, Computer Associates and Kaspersky are virtually useless against major viruses and rootkits.
Virus Stats: Before calling a computer repair technician, most computers sit idle for 2 days and up to 2 months !
Virus Stats: Most people try their friend, neighbour, kid next door, co-worker or anyone else before they have to pay a professional.
Virus Stats: In after taking hours or days to attempt to get rid of a virus, they still expect a computer expert to fix their computer within 5 minutes (some actually give us 60 minutes) !
Virus Stats: People will only call a computer expert if they can not get online. You would think they would call if: the computer is slow, laden with popups, doing strange things, making noises, playing music, strange web pages show up instead of normal ones.....
Virus Stats: Husbands are relieved to know that "going to porn sites" did not cause the virus. Truth? Porn site will NOT shut down internet access - as they get paid by the minute. But that's not to say that some porn sites will install trackers and keyloggers as well as programs to steal your identity and credit cards.

That’s a theological stretch! Or is it?
There are five main components to a computer, each can be compared to the human body, and each could fail catastrophically.
RAM or random access memory – is like short term memory – or words on the tip of the tongue.
The Hard Drive – is more like long term memory – where you store pictures, documents and emails.
The CPU chip is like the brain and does all the thinking.
The Power Supply is like the blood of the body – without it, there is no movement, no thought.
And the Motherboard – is the body – which ties everything together and keeps communication strong.
What attacks a computer?
Electrical storms, old age, and viruses from outside sources like the internet.
Some parts – whether in us or in a computer, are replaceable.
And viruses, like bad thoughts or deeds, can be stopped or “fixed”.

My name is Jerrold Schiff. I’ve been involved with AMSOIL a very short time, and I’ve got to tell you I’m really excited about this company and what they are doing both for the environment and for helping employ a lot of people.
My first encounter with AMSOIL was at a Small Business Networking meeting. That’s where about 20-30 people sit around a huge table and transfer knowledge. You get to do a 30 second commercial about your company, and you get to listen to how other people earn a living.
One fellow, dressed sharply in AMSOIL apparel, stood up tall and talked about how AMSOIL saves you money, saves you time, saves the wear and tear on your car, and saves the environment. Money: because you only change your oil yearly instead of every 3 months. Time: because you don’t have to sit around a lube shop every 3 months. Wear and tear: because synthetic oil runs cleaner and cooler (20%).
Well, that was a few years ago. And I was doing computer repair (removing viruses). And back then, business was very good. In today’s market, people with “bad” computers just buy new ones. And they can’t afford my going rate to have it fixed. That’s why I got into Search Engine Optimization.

My name is Jerrold Schiff. I’ve been involved with AMSOIL a very short time, and I’ve got to tell you I’m really excited about this company and what they are doing both for the environment and for helping employ a lot of people.
My first encounter with AMSOIL was at a Small Business Networking meeting. That’s where about 20-30 people sit around a huge table and transfer knowledge. You get to do a 30 second commercial about your company, and you get to listen to how other people earn a living.
One fellow, dressed sharply in AMSOIL apparel, stood up tall and talked about how AMSOIL saves you money, saves you time, saves the wear and tear on your car, and saves the environment. Money: because you only change your oil yearly instead of every 3 months. Time: because you don’t have to sit around a lube shop every 3 months. Wear and tear: because synthetic oil runs cleaner and cooler (20%).
Well, that was a few years ago. And I was doing computer repair (removing viruses). And back then, business was very good. In today’s market, people with “bad” computers just buy new ones. And they can’t afford my going rate to have it fixed. That’s why I got into Search Engine Optimization.

Within the court trail, experts have testified combing the data within Casey Anthony's (and family) computer(s).
They have been looking for evidence related to the court case. Not surprisingly, they found over 3 years worth of history residing on the hard drive.
How does this affect you and your company?
The new name for criminal and corporate evidence is called "E-Discovery". Investigators will examine all electronic records, be it phone, (land,cell,smart) or computer records. These records exist in at least TWO places. One place is obvious - your local device. The second is on the "carrier" or "server". In other words, they can subpoena the phone company or the internet company for records.
This first part is pretty obvious. There isn't much you can do about the records that are "out there" be it on servers or on the internet (example hotmail and yahoo email is located on the web on company servers and is available with or without your consent).
But you are in control of your computer. There are things you can regularly do to clean up your computer.
Understand first of all that everything that you see on your computer screen comes down as a file, as text, as pictures/graphics and as web pages or emails. It will reside there forever.
To a limited extent, you can clean up your computer using Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmentor (Microsoft products). You can delete emails and archive them. You can clean up temporary internet files.
But understand that when you delete something - you are deleting the "pointer" to the data - and not the data itself. If someone sends you a letter that does not have your street number, but has your street, the letter can still be delivered (can be, at the discretion of the post office - grin).
Your house still remains there, just the street number is gone! The same is true with data on a computer. The data is sort of like a page with a page number. If you take away the page number, it is hard to find the page - but it is still there for all to see, if they dig for it.

Search Engine Placement - What is it - How does it work?

The majority of companies selling "search engine marketing" promise quick results. But that goes against the very nature of advertising.
To quote Jim of Copyfax Orlando. "When you send out flyers, you can set your clock for 3 months. Sure enough, no matter when you date your sale, the calls will always come in 90 days after the flyer is mailed. Is there a reason or logic? No. As Jim said "I've been in the business over 20 years in Orlando, FL. and this is the way companies work!"
How does this affect you and your internet advertising?
Well, companies will sell you Pay Per Click. This is very expensive, and yes, to some extent it works. But, as you well know, advertising is about getting your name out in front of a customer - not once - not twice - but at least three times before they pick up a phone.
That's the technique I employ. Posting your adverts all over the internet. Linking, blogging, tweeting and advertising your company and your current sales flyer. Getting your name in front of the customer. Getting a better ranking from all the search engines (not just google, thank you).
Does this work? You bet it does. Does it take patience and time? Sadly, yes. It takes 3 months (yes, the net works just like snail mail). It works. Your rankings will slowly move up. And as people see your name over and over again, in different and varied web sites all over the net, they get familiar with your name and your product. And that's when they call.....
My technique is labor intensive. It takes time. It needs input from you. But it works! Want to test it? I did a short campaign with "May Mei Garden" - Try this: type in "Apopka Chinese Food" into google and see where this restaurant rates!!!! 2nd web site after pay per click. At a fraction of the price !!!!
If you are interested in getting listed, now is the time.

Workforce Central Florida's cape crusade is brilliant. And I am shocked at the lack of business savvy the Orlando Sentinel has shown in belittling its efforts ("Super lunacy," Tuesday).
Please send Sentinel reporters to the mayor's job fairs, which are held every two months. They will see 5,000 people or more lining up, and getting turned down, for the pitifully few jobs that are paying $8 to $11 an hour. These people — many were business executives with high-paying jobs — are walking away with their hopes dashed. But they do get a free pen for talking to an overwhelmed human-resource recruiter.
I do not mean to compare a cape to a pen. Look at the total costs of initializing the cape program, the research, the computer programming on the agency's website and the publicity.
Now, think about the number of people underemployed or out of work and those who have given up or simply have run out of benefits and are not being counted. Workforce Orlando should be commended for its efforts.
